The history of Under Armour begins in 1996 when Kevin Plank, the head of the University of Maryland football teams, noticed that classic cotton T-shirts did not serve the needs of athletes as they quickly soaked and became heavy with sweat, making it difficult for them. So he designed the prototype 0037 with a soft and elastic construction that helped manage the moisture produced. A few years later, Under Armour developed Heatgear®, Coldgear® and AllSeasonGear® technologies for sportswear that helped athletes cope with cold, hot and extreme weather conditions respectively. Now based in Baltimore, Maryland and with the motto Protect this House®, Under Armour has become associated with performance clothing, aiming to improve the performance of basketball, football, CrossFit and training athletes. Since then, he has collaborated with top athletes, such as Stephen Curry in 2020 for a new generation of UA basketball shoes and apparel, and with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, creating the Project Rock line of shoes, apparel and accessories designed for training.
